On Sunday morning, our preacher, Jonathan, got up in front of the congregation to make an announcement. He prefaced the announcement by using the phrase, "As most of you already know...". I immediately knew that I didn't know. He proceeded to tell of the massacre that took place in Orlando, Florida the night before. I felt like I had been sucker punched as the news sunk in.
Whether our society classifies this act of violence a hate crime or terrorism, I am here to tell you that it is both! Hate brings terror and terrorism is born out of hate. This act was filled with hate and {It was wrong.} {It was evil.} {It was sin filled.}.
I know our society well enough to know that there are people out there that believe the massacre was an act of God's judgement. So...
Let me tell you what else I know, God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit do not possess hate and will never terrorize you!
In a situation that leaves me at a loss for words, I'll leave you with words that are not my own...
"But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness" - Psalms 86:15
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." Matthew 5:4 - Jesus spoke these words and is the Comforter. Draw near to Him and He will comfort you.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30
Join me in praying for those physically and emotionally injured from being present at the massacre. Join me in praying for the family members and friends of those killed, injured, and standing by as witnesses. Join me in praying for our society as a whole. And most of all, join me in praying Matthew 6:10 "...Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven..."
